Cathy Evert
Cathy Evert has been the 5th grade teacher at Faith Lutheran School since 1996. Cathy is a graduate of Concordia Lutheran College (now Concordia University) in Austin, TX. She has been teaching in Lutheran schools since 1984. Before joining the staff at Faith, Cathy taught at St. Paul Lutheran, Wichita Falls, TX, Mt. Olive Lutheran, Houston, and Immanuel Lutheran, Houston. Cathy also taught Confirmation and directed the Preschool at St. Philip Lutheran, Houston. Besides teaching 5th grade, Cathy pursues her love of music and singing by leading praise and worship Assembly each morning for the elementary students. Cathy and her family, husband, Chris and children, Alex and Caitlin, are members of Faith Lutheran and Cathy and Caitlin serve as members of the 10:30 Music ministry. Cathy Findlay
Cathy graduated from Texas A&M with a B.S. in Education and one year later received her Master’s of Education from the same. She taught seven years in F.B.I.S.D. as a second grade teacher and eight years at a Baptist preschool. She started teaching first grade at Faith in the fall of 1998. Cathy and her husband (also an Aggie) have two senior boys. One in high school and the other a third generation Aggie at Texas A&M. Cathy loves to sail, scrapbook and read.

Elise Arango

Elise teaches 2nd grade at Faith.


Shelly Gardner
Shelly was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in southern Minnesota. She attended Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota where she earned her B.S. in Elementary Education. She began teaching 1st grade at Faith Lutheran in 1989. She moved to 4th grade in 1992. Her hobbies include reading and camping.

Kristi
Georgi
 
Kristi Georgi is from Rosenberg, TX  She is currently teaching middle school science, 8th grade literature, and 7th grade Bible.  She is also serving as the coordinator for student government and yearbook.  Kristi is a 2004 graduate of Concordia University in Austin and has been teaching in Lutheran schools since 2004, including St. John's in La Porte, Indiana.  Kristi's experience with children also includes working at Camp Dixie in Alabama, where she was a camp counselor for two summers and program director for two summers.  She is gifted musically, including experience with the trumpet, baritone, hand bells, and singing in choirs.

Carol Hawkins
Carol Hawkins teaches middle school Language Arts, reading with study skills and sixth grade Bible and history. She has been a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1976. Her teaching career began in Faith Lutheran’s first preschool. Carol has also taught third, fourth and fifth grades at Faith Lutheran School. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Carol came to Faith Lutheran as a brand new bride. She has been married for 29 years and has two sons. Carol enjoys teaching all ages and considers teaching a calling on her life.

Maria Henkel
Maria Henkel was born in Cuba and came to the U.S. as a young girl. She is grateful to her family for helping her maintain her native language. Maria received her B.S. in Medical Technology from Houston Baptist University in 1980. She completed her internship at the Methodist Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1981. She worked as a microbiologist for many years in addition to teaching Medtech students, nurses and doctors. In 1998, she started the Spanish program at Faith. She has taught for seven years. Maria has written her own Spanish Text Poco a Poco, which she uses to teach the sixth graders. She enjoys rescuing abandoned animals, but has a difficult time parting with them. Maria is a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

Erin Lyons
Erin Lyons graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Applied Learning and Development, Early Childhood-4th grade Certification, and a minor in Communication Studies.  She is married to Travis Lyons and they have a terrier/dachshund puppy named Cash.  Travis is a student at Baylor College of Medicine, approaching the completion of his M.D.  Erin has taught first grade in H.I.S.D. and  2nd grade at Faith.  Now Erin is the Computer and Music teacher at Faith.  Erin has also been a Childcare Teacher at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, a family nanny, a Counselor at Lutheran Camp Chrysalis, and a school tutor.  When Erin is not teaching, she loves to read, spend time with their puppy, play the piano, and see movies and concerts with her husband.

Therize Perez
Therise Perez, born in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana and moved to Texas in 1980. Worked for First City National Bank for seven years where I met my husband of 15 years. We have three boys, two are at Faith Lutheran School and the oldest serving in the U.S. Army. I’ve taught computer at Faith Lutheran for the last three years and am now teaching Art K-8.

Jene Riggs
Jene’ graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2003 with a degree in Kinesiology. She began to work at Faith as the P.E. teacher and Coach in August 2003.

Gordon Stoneburner
Gordon Stoneburner graduated from Concordia College in River Forest, Illinois where he received his Bachelor of Education degree in 1984. In 1988, Gordon finished his Masters in Human Services. He is known for being very supportive of his staff and frequently visits the classrooms. Gordon is described as leading by example in Christian lifestyle, dependability, and dedication while encouraging incorporation of Christian principles throughout his school.

Frances Thames
Frances Thames is a graduate of the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Quantitative Management Science. She has completed post graduate classes from Houston Baptist University, The College of Biblical Studies and Moody Bible Institute. She began her walk with Faith Lutheran School in 1984 by enrolling her two sons as students, volunteering to teach Bible classes, and substitute teaching. She followed a call from God to become a full time teacher.

Nia Thanos

Nia Thanos has been teaching FLS since 1994. She has taught Kindergarten, 1st, and 4th grade at Faith.  She was born to Greek immigrants in Chicago, Illinois. Although she attended middle and high school back in Greece, Nia returned to the U.S. to attend Houston Baptist University, where she received her B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in English. She also has experience in teaching and directing a Greek Afternoon School at St. Basil the Great Greek Orthodox Church. Nia’s husband, Demos, owns Briargrove Texaco and they have a son and a daughter. Both children attended Faith Lutheran from Kindergarten through 8th grades.
