Dr. Ron Salazar - ChairmanRon was born and raised in Texas. After beginning his career in the government service, he earned a Graduate's degree in Business Administration and has devoted his career to academia and consulting. Ron earned his Doctorate in Business Administration at the University of Texas at Austin. He teaches graduate courses in Corporate Strategy and Management Information Systems at the University of Houston – Victoria and consults in developing highly competitive organizations. He has served on the graduate faculties of two major universities and as a strategy professor in an Executive MBA program. He has consulted with and educated executives from the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. He has lectured in both English and Spanish. His technology research spanning two decades has been published in a number of academic business journals. Ron is committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to His Kingdom. He attended Cursillo in 1978, becoming an active layman at that time. He has been a Canterbury mentor (West Texas), Founding President and Member of El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission - the Provincial Center for Hispanic Ministries, and has led bible studies and small group ministries for a number of years. An avid computer hobbyist, he is married to Margaret Willis Salazar and resides in Sugar Land. Maggie and Ron are proud grandparents who spend their leisure time together traveling and reading.
Carol Hawkins - AdministratorCarol Hawkins has been a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1976. Her teaching career has included teaching in Faith Lutheran's first preschool, combined third and fourth grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, and middle school language arts. She served as a Cub Scout and Weblos leader in Faith Lutheran's Boy Scout program, Pack 992, for seven years, danced in Faith Lutheran Dance Ministry for nineteen years, taught Young Ladies Dance Ministry for seventeen years, and continues to serve on the Alter Guild. Carol graduated from the University of South Carolina and has recently received her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University-Austin. She has enjoyed teaching children of all ages, and believes teaching and leading is a calling on her life.
Mary Jane EngelingMary Jane has been a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1972 (Charter Member). She has been involved in retreat ministries in the congregation, has been on the worship team since the early years of the congregation and has been the worship leader for the 10:30am service for over ten years. She also is serving on the Women's Board at Faith Lutheran Church. She was the first Administrator of Faith Lutheran School, serving as administrator and upper grade math teacher for six years. She returned as an interim administrator for one year in 2010. Following her "first retirement" from the school, she started the dance ministry at Faith Lutheran and was leader of that ministry for almost nineteen years. She has a Bachelor's in Music Education and is a certified teacher.
Dr. Paul EngelingPaul has been an active member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1972 (Charter Member). He received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and his Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Champaign. He has been involved in retreat ministries and has served on the board of elders during his years of membership in the congregation. He is a self-employed consulting foundation engineer.
Kyle JonesKyle has been a member of Faith Lutheran Church for 3 years. He was married into the Lutheran faith 15 years ago. Prior to that, he was raised in the Episcopal Church and was educated for 9 years at a Catholic school.
He has done stint coaching and judging at high school cross examination debates. Kyle also conducted customer presentations and facility tours to “educate” customers about the product his company manufactures. When the regular Sunday School teacher is away, Kyle would fill in and lead the adult Sunday School class between services. Kyle also regularly attends the early service at Faith Lutheran with his wife and two children.
Dr. Paul LoubserPaul was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He underwent medical training at the University of Cape Town before immigrating to the United States, where he completed specialist anesthesiologist training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Texas Heart Institute. Paul spent 15 years on the Teaching Faculty of Baylor College of Medicine and is currently a partner in a private practice anesthesiology group in Houston. Paul has been a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 2007, is married to Ileana and has 3 stepdaughters. They recently became proud grandparents of twin girls who reside in Port Neches.
Toni-Rao DelgadoToni has been a member of Faith Lutheran Church for about twelve years. She is in the final stage of receiving her Ed.D. (Doctor of Education) from Sam Houston State University in Educational Leadership. Her doctoral dissertation is centered around Universal Design for Instruction (UDI), a pedagogical concept based on helping faculty design/re-design curricula to serve a wider range of students with different abilities and backgrounds. She has successfully defended her dissertation and is in the process of completing publication of the document.
Toni is currently developing curriculum for the Houston Community College TLE (Teacher Learning Excellence) Program used as part of staff/faculty development. She is designing a course in UDI to help faculty implement the concept into their discipline of study to promote "best practices" in teaching strategies. The course will be part of CEU credit for faculty. Toni has worked with LCIRT (Landmark College Institute for Research and Training) and CAST (The Center for Applied Special Technology) Research Center to analyze implementation of the UDI concept in a community college setting. She was part of an international summit conducted by LCIRT that focused on an educational paradigm shift that was developed from studying how students learn in our global and technological society.
Toni has taught different levels of students, i.e. elementary, middle school, secondary and college. During her 20 years in education, she has taught at Houston Community College, San Jacinto Community College, Alvin Community College, University of Houston, Art Institute of Houston, Fort Bend ISD and Corpus Christi Elementary and Middle School. The previous 15 years of experience involved broadcast television production and reporting. She holds the position of Operations Manager at HCCTV (Houston Community College Television). She has been in her current position for 13 years.
Toni has a Master’s degree in Drama/Speech and Mass Communications and a Bachelor’s degree in Drama with a Minor in History. She also has a Texas Teaching Certificate.
Dana Rathmell – President, Parent Teacher LeagueDana Rathmell was born and raised in Pennsylvania, attended Penn State University and received a degree in Elementary Education. She then taught a few years in the State College school district in Pennsylvania and also at Walker Station Elementary in Sugar Land, Texas. She and her husband Lance have two daughters who attend Faith Lutheran School. Madsyen is in 3rd grade and Morgen is a 1st grader. They chose Faith Lutheran School because they were drawn to the teachers who love and encourage the children everyday to be closer to Christ. Dana said, “Faith Lutheran School has a small family environment and helps children achieve at their level so they feel successful each day when they come home. I joined the PTL this year because I am eager to help make Faith Lutheran School the best school it can be.”
Cheryl TasdemirCheryl has been a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1984 when she moved to Sugar Land with her family. She served on the Board of Women of Faith and as a Texas delegate to the Convention of Lutheran Women's Missionary League in South Dakota. In the years following, she served in several leadership positions of the Women of Faith. Cheryl also volunteered as a teacher of and on one occasion chaired Vacation Bible School. For the last ten years since attaining a teaching certificate and teaching full time for Fort Bend ISD as an elementary teacher, she has dedicated her time to the Altar Guild.
She is very interested in seeing Faith Lutheran School grow in number and prestige. She believes it will take a commitment from everyone here at Faith Lutheran Church to embrace the school as one of our mission outreach goals. Cheryl commented, “We must, in doing so, address the physical needs of the church/school property as well as maintain our accreditation and high standards for teachers, curriculum, and students. By God's grace, we will meet the challenges that lay ahead.”
